Three-hours guided Jewish Budapest tour during which you will visit the Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world! The whole synagogue complex includes the Great Synagogue, the Jewish Museum, the Jewish Cemetery and the Holocaust Memorial. Built in 1859, this second-largest working synagogue in the world (the largest is in New York City), was designed with Romantic, Moorish, and Byzantine elements. You will learn about its rich, but tragic history as one of many arrest areas for Jews during the Holocaust.
You will then proceed to the adjoining Jewish Museum which traces the origins of Hungarian Judaism and features exhibits throughout the centuries. The Jewish cemetery is located in the backyard of the synagogue complex. It was part of the Jewish Ghetto during the Second World War and served as shelter for a lot of Jews during that time.
