Tour to Balatonfüred and Lake Balaton

Departure for a ten-hour private wonderful tour to Herend and Lake Balaton.

You get to see the largest freshwater lake of Central Europe, Lake Balaton. Our first stop is Balatonfüred, which is a lovely small town on the north shore of Lake Balaton. We invite you for a short city sightseeing with a nostalgia train”.

Before a one-hour cruise on the Lake Balaton, you will have time to walk along the picturesque promenade and have something to eat. (lunch not included) Next, we drive to Tihany Peninsula, which has been declared one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

This area is rich in special natural and architectural values. Here you can enjoy the unique view of Balaton (photo stop). Then you will have the opportunity to visit the Abbey of Tihany, founded in 1055 by the Hungarian King, András. Finally, we return to Budapest, the tour ends at your hotel.

Near Middle Europe's largest lake, in a romantic natural environment among the slopes of the Bakony Mountain, the world's largest porcelain manufactory has been operating for over 180 years relying on its extensive, well-established knowledge. The company that started in 1826 as a factory with just a few employees, and having become a favoured brand among rulers, famous historical personages, leading businessmen and artists alike, is now a renowned major company known in almost every country of the world, it being a true 'Hungaricum': part of the Hungarian Heritage. At the time of its founding, Herend took a path that was twisting and constantly changing, sometimes bound for the peaks and at other times for the abysses.

The "Hungarian Sea", Lake Balaton, is the people's name for the 50-mile long lake with silky green-yellow water in the middle of Transdanubia. Lake Balaton is one of Hungary's most precious treasures and most visited resorts. It is also the largest lake in Central Europe. The southern shores are ideal for small children because of the shallow water, but on the north shore the water gets deeper instantaneously. The summer water temperature is around 80 °F, which is warmer than the average air temperature in the morning and in the evening. The water and the sleek mud of the lake are excellent remedies for nervous complaints, anaemia and nervous fatigue. Picturesque vineyards in the region produce an assortment of excellent wines that go very well with the delicious local food.

Tihany peninsula’s twin-towered church is distinctly visible far and wide. The peninsula, inhabited almost a thousand years, is of volcanic origin, and has a profusion of rare plants and animals. The crypt of King András I, founded in 1055, survived the turbulent past and still stands in its original form. The present church was built over the crypt in the 18th century in Baroque style and has many precious wood carvings. In the Museum of the Benedictine Abbey, you can find an exhibition about ancient times. There are frequent organ concerts in the abbey church in the summertime.
